Katy Perry Tributes Warped Tour: Can't Skip The Steps, Gotta Pay Your Dues

Katy Perry got right to the heart of Warped Tour's rich history with her throwback photo posted to Instagram early Friday (November 17). Back in 2008, Perry sang on the same stage as many of pop punk's greatest acts during Warped Tour, a move which many artists consider to be the first step in the career of an alt-artist.

The "Hot n Cold" singer was part of the Warped lineup for all but two dates of the trek, performing on the Hurley.com Stage in support of her album, One Of the Boys, which had dropped earlier that summer.

In her throwback photo, Perry is shown kneeling down on the Warped Tour stage, 2008 black locks thrown back as she sings her heart out to the presumably punk crowd. Perry captioned the photo, "Can't skip the steps, gotta pay your dues... Warped Tour 2008 #fbf."

Warped Tour founder Kevin Lyman had much to say about the not-so-typical Warped veteran during his recent interview with Billboard, adding to his list of hopefuls for the 2018 lineup, "Maybe Katy Perry wants to get back to her roots! That'd be awesome, huh? We'd have a spot for her. Thirty minutes, you know? [Laughs.]"

Lyman added that she was the textbook definition of a good Warped Tour artist. "She exemplified the person that I so loved working with on tour," he explained. "She worked so hard. She was kind. Also, she's been an exemplary citizen with all her work for MusiCares and other charities. Maybe in a small way, Warped Tour helped with that."

Will Perry hit the Warped Tour stage for old time's sake as it goes out for one last round during the summer of 2018? We'll have to wait and see.
