Kelly Ripa Tearfully Reveals How COVID-19 Crisis Has Impacted Her Family

Kelly Ripa is having a hard time keeping distant from her loved ones.

During Wednesdayā€™s (April 8) broadcast of Live with Kelly and Ryan, the 49-year-old nearly broke down in tears while reflecting on how the ongoing COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic has impacted her family. Ripa, who is currently self-quarantining with husband Mark Consuelos, tearfully confessed some of her children ā€œwonā€™t hugā€ her when theyā€™re together and admitted that sheā€™s ā€œnot speaking to two of my three kidsā€ amid the crisis, either.

ā€œJust because, weā€™re all in the same boat together, right?ā€ she told cohost Ryan Seacrest, referring to she and Consuelosā€™ daughter Lola, 18, and sons Michael, 22, and Joaquin, 17.

ā€œI havenā€™t gotten to hug my parents. I want to hug my parents. I miss hugging my parents,ā€ she went on, fighting back tears. ā€œAnd my kids, like, wonā€™t hug me. And Iā€™m like, ā€˜Guys, weā€™ve all been in lockdown together. Weā€™re fine. You can give me a hug. Itā€™s fine.ā€™ā€

ā€œAnyway, Iā€™m sorry. I donā€™t know why Iā€™m crying. Maybe Iā€™m just going to get my period, who knows,ā€ Ripa added apologetically. ā€œSorry, sorry. Sometimes we forget that weā€™re on. Did I shout that, or did my inner monologue come out? Sorry, didnā€™t mean to do that.ā€

Elsewhere during the episode, Ripa revealed the other ways the pandemic has hindered important events for her loved ones. ā€œI feel so bad for my son, Michael, who was supposed to graduate in a couple of weeks,ā€ she shared. ā€œAnd I really feel bad for my dad who delayed having knee surgery that he canā€™t obviously have now for so many myriad reasons. He was so looking forward to, you know, watching his grandson graduate from college.ā€

Both Ripa and Consuelos have been immensely supportive in the fight against COVID-19, having donated $1 million toward relief efforts in New York, which has the highest confirmed coronavirus cases nationwide with over 151,000 people infected.
