Two Air Berlin pilots are in big trouble today after deliberately buzzing the terminal at the airport in Duesseldorf, Germany.
The flight was arriving from Miami and was the airline's final trans-Atlantic flight under the Air Berlin name. The pilots say they performed the risky fly-by, which took them very low and close to the terminal, because they "wanted to make a mark, a dignified and emotional goodbye." The pilots requested permission from air traffic control before attempting the maneuver, but people inside the terminal were unaware of what was going on and believed the large jet was about to crash. Both pilots have been suspended and are under investigation.
