Nearly a year into the pandemic, and coronavirus guidelines are becoming almost second nature. Picking up a mask before heading out the door is a habit that many people do without thinking, but some still struggle with remembering to bring that ever-important piece of fabric. To help jog their memory, a group of students from LSU Health Medical School got to work filming a unique PSA.
Set to the tune of a Bruno Mars classic, "Lockdown Funk" reminds everyone to work together to do their part slowing the spread of COVID-19. Filmed over the course of last semester, the students created a parody of the chart-topping song as the case numbers around Louisiana began to rise. As the lyrics aptly put it, "It's too hot (mask up)."
"We thought it'd be a fun way to every time you think about going out to remember to wear a mask, think of 'Lockdown Funk,'" said Nancy Ren.
The students got the idea to film the music parody after an advisory board suggested they create a video about the virus. While Ren thinks the board meant a typical PSA video, they chose to get a little more creative.
"It's really funny honestly, we're being goofs like we usually are," said Ren.
The group hopes people enjoy the video, but more important they want everyone to listen to the message.
"I would say a lot of people are taking proper precautions and we're thankful," said George Brand IV, "so we're hoping to get through to people who maybe aren't."
