Gulf System Could Send Rain Our Way Later This Week

Forecasters at the National Hurricane Center continue to watch for the possible development of a tropical system over Gulf waters.

"Disorganized showers and thunderstorms located over the southwestern Caribbean Sea are associated with a trough of low pressure. Environmental conditions could support some gradual development of this system, and a tropical depression could form towards the end of this week or this weekend while it moves generally northwestward over the northwestern Caribbean Sea and into the Gulf of Mexico," said the NHC Tuesday.

The NHC also expects another tropical depression to form over the eastern tropical Atlantic soon. The next names on the 2024 list are Leslie and Milton.

Tropical Storm Kirk remains on track to become the season's next major hurricane, with maximums winds forecasted to reach 125 miles per hour later this week. However, Kirk remains no threat to land.

The 2024 Atlantic hurricane season ends November 30.
